I’m always ready to dig into any crumble, but this one is probably one of my favourites. I love that surprise chocolate flavour with the dates. Yum! Enjoy this as a square or kick it up a notch and serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Preheat oven to 400F
In a medium pot over low heat cook dates, coconut sugar, water and chocolate chips. Stir constantly until mixture thickens like pudding, approximately 10 minutes. There will be some flecks of dates, but that’s ok. Let cool.
Beat brown sugar and butter until creamy.
Stir in rest of ingredients.
Press 2/3 of the crumble mixture into an 8 x 8” lined pan. Layer with date mixture and top with remaining crumble mixture.
Gently press crumble into date mixture. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool completely before cutting into squares.

Oh yes, I agree! The chocolate is a surprise flavour. It gives the crumble a little ‘something, something’ and I love the walnuts too. Really enjoyed these squares.
Thanks so much Anne. So happy you enjoyed them!
