BREADED TOFU STEAKS

Breaded tofu steaks are a perfect vegan main dish to serve with any side.  My favourite sides are my Quick Double Baked Stuffed Potato and the Ultimate Caesar SaladThe steak is easy to make, you just need to do a little prep work first to create the wonderful flavours it offers.  So worth it!

Tofu is like a sponge and will absorb anything you leave it in.  The key is to press the water out first to make room for new flavours to be absorbed.  There, I have shared my secret for successfully marinating tofu!

Just 5 ingredients in the marinade will kick this tofu up to a whole new level.  Now run to your kitchen and make this for dinner tonight cause your family is going to love it!

Prepare marinade:

In a large square glass container whisk together tamari, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, paprika and garlic.

Set aside.

Prepare tofu steaks:

Cut tofu in half widthwise then cut each piece horizontally in half.  You will have 4 tofu steaks.

Place tofu in marinade for 2 hours.  Flip tofu and leave in marinade another 2 hours.

The tofu will absorb almost all of the marinade in 4 hours.

Place breadcrumbs on plate and coat each tofu steak well with breadcrumbs.

Cook steaks:

Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.  Place all 4 tofu steaks in pan and fry each side until golden brown and crispy, about 2 minutes each side.

Careful when flipping the tofu as the breading can easily flake off.  Use a fork and spatula to gently flip each tofu steak.

Dip your steak in your favourite barbeque sauce, gravy or just good old fashioned ketchup … delicious!
