I started this easy recipe with every intention of making a peanut butter-chocolate treat, but my Italian background nudged me down the “Nutella” path. This is a delightful snack that is healthy and sinful all at the same time because in life everyone needs guilty pleasure foods!
In a food processor add dates, hazelnuts, cacao powder, ground flaxseed and salt.
Blend until a coarse meal. Add hazelnut butter and vanilla extract and continue blending.
Gradually add water, one teaspoon at a time. Mixture should stick together nicely when pinched between fingers. If still too dry continue to add water ¼ teaspoon at a time until right consistency is achieved. Be careful not to add too much water. Add the chocolate chips and blend until incorporated.
Roll into 1 ½” balls and place on lined baking sheet. Freeze until firm. Store in airtight container or sealed bag in freezer.

- ½ cup hazelnuts
- 2 tablespoons cacao powder
- 4 tablespoons ground flaxseed
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon hazelnut butter (optional)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 4 teaspoons water
- ¼ cup non-dairy mini chocolate chips
