EASY CRISPY KALE CHIPS

There are so many benefits of eating kale that I would have to call it the “Golden Green”.  It really is one of the healthiest plants; no wonder bunnies love it so much!  Contains good fibre, antioxidants and is also a good source of calcium and vitamins C and K.  Many of us have tried kale in different ways, but it can be challenging to embrace this fibrous leafy green plant.  This quick and easy chip is a great way to get the benefits of kale while enjoying a tasty snack.  Kale chips can be naturally flavoured many ways and easily added to a lunch or just carried with you in a zip lock bag or container to enjoy during the day.

Preheat oven 300 F

Wash and dry each leaf very well.  It’s important each leaf be dried completely before seasoning.

Remove the stem running through center of each leaf.

Tear approximately 1” pieces of kale and place in a large bowl.

Add oil, salt and pepper and toss gently until kale pieces are evenly coated.

Place on lined baking sheet, spreading kale pieces out so they are not overlapping each other and leaving a little space between pieces.  This will allow the kale to crisp up nicely.  Depending on amount of kale, could need 2 – 3 baking sheets.  Bake for 8 – 10 minutes.  Some pieces may turn a little brown, just be careful not to burn them.

Tip:  Don’t sample the pieces of seasoned kale before they are baked.   Flavours of each seasoning will be pronounced after kale has crisped.  You can always add more spices when kale crisps are still hot if you want more flavour.
